Unity in Fort Wayne History

Unity of Fort Wayne Spiritual Center began as a result of a railroad attendant, William Sullivan, discovering the Daily Word magazine while passing through the mail car.  In 1939, William and a small group of friends met in the Old Wayne Hotel and held services under the name of Unity Church of Christ.

1939:  Unity Church of Christ formed.  Minister Rev. Fredrick Andrews.

1964:  Property at 3232 Crescent Avenue was purchased and the first chapel constructed.

1987:  With a growing congregation, a new sanctuary and fellowship hall were added.

2011:  Church renamed Unity of Fort Wayne Spiritual Center (UFWSC) to reflect our focus on practical spirituality for empowered living.

2012:  Transitional Minister Specialist, Rev. Barry Vennard, came to UFWSC to assist in seeing where we had been, where we were, and to  envision our future. Through this  process, new vision and mission statements were developed.

Vision:  A world transformed through shared spiritual awakenings.

Mission:  To cultivate leadership and connections that support spiritual awakenings and transformations.

2016:  The Rev. Glenda P. Walden was hired to serve as our part-time minister.  In 2018, she became our full-time minister.

2019:  UFWSC rennovated the sanctuary demonstating our faith in an abundant Universe.
