This 4-week yoga series is designed to address our tendency to hold stress and anxiety the body. Led by C-IAYT Yoga Therapist, Ayurveda Wellness Counselor and End of Life Doula Karla Alexander.
Stress and anxiety are a response to change and challenge. Both trigger a response in the Sympathetic Nervous System to activate the Endocrine System and move us into the place of the Flight, Fight, Friend or Freeze reaction. In today’s world we often live in chronic state of stress and/or anxiety. Stress is listed by the AMA as a contributing factor in 80% of all illnesses.
Common side effects of living with chronic stress and anxiety can include: High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Ulcers, Depression, Sleep Disorders, Headaches, Memory Loss/Difficulty Concentrating, Anger, Inflammation and Immune Disorders.
Therapeutic Yoga for Stress and Anxiety is designed to help you become more aware of when and how stress and anxiety affect you and then provide you with tools to help you consciously move into the Parasympathetic Nervous System where healing, rest and rejuvenation happen.
Every session will include a guided self-check in, awareness practices, breath practices, gentle movement, and guided relaxation practices. Each session will have a different focus and may include affirmations, mantra and mudras (hand positions).
No prior yoga experience is necessary. Bring a yoga mat (a few are available for lone), wear comfortable clothing and bring an open and curious mind. Chairs are available if getting up and down on the floor is difficult.
